World Environment Day was established in 1972 by the United Nations General Assembly to raise global awareness to take positive environmental action to protect nature and the planet Earth.

Each year World Environment Day has a new theme. In 2014 the theme was ‘Small Islands and Climate Change’.

2015 has taken on a new theme and official slogan:

Sustainable Consumption and Production: Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care.

The well-being of humanity, the environment, and the functioning of the economy, ultimately depend upon the responsible management of the planet’s natural resources. And yet, evidence is building that people are consuming far more natural resources than what the planet can sustainably provide.

World Environment Day celebrations are hosted by different countries each year. This year, the celebrations will be held in Italy. For more information on World Environment Day, click here.
