Talk training’s annual Strategy Day took place on Friday 30th September 2016 at HCE Adventure in Pentyrch, near Cardiff.

The day started with plenty of tea, coffee and breakfast rolls for all which was then followed by the formal presentations.  The Managing Director, Jon Hughes, explained the business strategy for 2016/17 which also included a brief history of the company over the last twenty years. Jon also elaborated on the Vision, Mission and Core values and that these would be changing in readiness for the 6th Generation of Investors in People award in 2018. Jon also outlined the Key Objectives which will help Talk training to continue its success over the next contract periods.

Steve Evans, Finance Director, then gave an overview of the previous two years and next three year forecast Profit and Loss Accounts, before outlining the company’s 2015/16 Cash Flow movements. Alison Anthony, Operations Director, then discussed some of the recent qualification and WG funding changes and potential future business opportunities which she hopes will come to fruition over the next year or two.

Further presentations were made by Mike Woods, Quality Manager, Rhian Lewis, Internal Quality Assurance Coordinator and Karen Smith, HR Consultant with Key Safety Solutions each respectively covering Preventing Radicalisation and Talk Point Ein Llais (Our Voice) the company’s Staff Engagement Forum, Talk training’s EGAU Excellence Framework and Key Safety Solutions’ HR support to Talk training.

Following the delivery of the presentations, staff then participated in a variety of team building exercises to finish off the morning. Staff were divided into three groups, each group representing a different director and further broken down into two smaller teams of six. The events included Archery, Blind Buggy Driving and Hostage activities which were good fun and enjoyed by everyone. It was Group C, led by Finance Director Steve Evans (pictured below), who claimed the winner’s trophy. His teams were awarded some wine to enjoy as the winners of the Director’s Challenge.

The day finished with Alison Anthony congratulating all staff who had completed qualifications with Talk training over the last year and presenting them with their well-deserved certificates. Da iawn pawb!
