Adult Learners’ Week is the annual campaign which aims to promote and encourage the opportunities provided to adult learners throughout Wales. The event, now hosted in over 55 countries, will be taking place between 19th – 25th June 2017. In Wales, Adult Learners’ Week Cymru aims to raise awareness of the high number of different courses available, in hopes of attracting more people to sign on to such beneficial learning programmes.

There are currently an approximate 10,000 adults in Wales who participate in the different activities coordinated through Adult Learners’ Week. This is achieved by working with many private and public organisations on the promotion of short courses, free taster events and local outreach activities that provide people with a little insight on adult learning. This is then incentivised through the Inspire! Awards.

The Inspire! Awards, hosted by the Learning and Work Institute, celebrate the extraordinary achievements of different projects, individuals and employers. The Awards recently took place on Thursday, 15th June 2017 and the winners were as follows:

  • Alison Rogers from Wrexham – Family Learning Award
  • Sara-Jane Thomas from Wrexham – Young Adult Award
  • Emyr Williams from Conwy – Life or Career Change Award
  • Rosemary Probert from Pembroke – Award for Outstanding Progression through Learning
  • Claire Louise James from Aberdare – Award for Health and Wellbeing
  • James Harris from Merthyr – Into Work Award and Overall Learner of the Year Award
  • Sarah and Khala Slack from Rhyl – Skills for Life Award
