Breaking New Ground (1) 10/03/2010
Two Assessors from Talk training based at Nantgarw have just completed the delivery of the first classroom based framework qualifications for Team Leading and Management. The Pullman Group repair and refurbish passenger train carriages for Arriva and Virgin. They employ around 200 people in four sections; Fabrication & Maintenance, Wheel Shop, Bogie Shop and the Spray Shop. Normally candidates would be seen on a one-to-one basis, however the company agreed with the Pullman Group to deliver the qualification in a classroom environment for two pilot groups. The pilot consisted of two mixed level groups of five adults, working towards Team Leading and Management Frameworks. The age range of the group was 30 to 60 and none had received any further education since leaving school. The assessors carrying out the teaching were Robert Paul, the Lead assessor for the ILM Team, and Roger Green. They were chosen for the project as they were undertaking their PGCE CERT ED teaching qualification in college. Robert Paul stated “This has been a fantastic project to be involved in and I certainly believe it to be the way forward. The benefits of the classroom sessions are better quality learning for the students through increased social interaction and reduced timescales for delivery."
